A Soldier's Psalm
(Psalm 18:27-42, NAPSV)
God, You save the humble people,
and bring down those with haughty looks.
God, You light
lamp;
and lighten up the darkness.
By You,
can run against a troop,
By You,
can leap over a wall.
As for You God, Your way is perfect;
Your Word is proven true;
You are a shield to
and all who trust You.
Who is God, except You?
Who is a rock, except You?
It is You who arms
with strength,
And keeps
on the right path.
You make
feet like those of deer,
And set
on high places.
You teach
hands to make war,
So that
can bend a bow of bronze.
You gave
the shield of Your salvation;
Your right hand has held
up,
Your gentleness has made
great.
You enlarged the road under
So
feet did not slip.
As a result,
has pursued your enemies and overtaken them;
did not turn back until they were destroyed.
has wounded them so severely that they could not get up.
They have fallen under
feet.
You have armed
with strength for battle;
You have subdued those who rose up against
You have given
the necks of your enemies,
Those who hated
were destroyed.
They cried out, but there was no one to save them;
Even to You, Lord, but You did not answer them.
Then,
beat them as fine as the dust before the wind;
and
cast them out like dirt in the streets.
